Getting Started
The PayPerShop Forum has an array of features, but don't worry about trying to take in everything at once. If you use the forum regularly, you will gradually pick up different tips and tricks to make your experience more enjoyable and useful.
As long as you know how to post messages, you can pick up everything else as you go along.
1) Before you make your first post, check out the rules of this forum. Under the "Welcome to the PayPerShop Forum" heading is a forum entitled "Welcome! Please read before using the PayPerShop Forum
". Click on this link.
2) In this forum is a single post entitled, "Rules of PayPerShop". Click this link and read the message carefully to familiarise yourself with the standards expected of users of this forum.
Next, you should post an introductory message to introduce yourself to the other members. Although you can use the "back" and "forward" buttons on your browser, you will find it easier to navigate using the various links provided.
3) Next to the "locked" buttons are two links that read, Forum Index - > Welcome! Please read before using the PayPerShop Forum . Click on the "Forum Index" link to return to the main menu.
4) Click on the second forum entitled, "Introductions". You can now see the conversations (known as "threads") started by other users.
To post your own introduction, click on the button labelled, "new topic".
5) In the subject line, enter the title of your message. This should accurately describe what you are discussing but, the more interesting it sounds, the more responses you are likely to receive.
For this introductory message, something like "Hello from ", or "Greetings from " will be sufficient.
6) Type a message in the next window so others can find out a little more about you. You can insert emoticons (cartoon faces that can be placed to indicate the tone of your message) by clicking on the appropriate picture on the left-hand side.
7) The options can all be left un-checked but you will probably want to make sure "Attach Signature" and "Notify me when a reply is posted" are ticked.
You can click on "Preview" at the bottom of the page to see how it will look or click "Submit" to post the message.
You can then choose to view your message or return to the forum menu.
Congratulations! You have succesfully posted a message
8) If at this point you wish to change or delete your message, click on your message and select, from the top right-hand corner, "edit" to make changes or "X" to remove entirely.
9) Assuming you checked the "Notify me when a reply is posted" box, you will receive an email when somone replies to your message. The email will contain a link directing you straight to your thread.
If you want to reply to someone else's message, just select their thread and then click on the button labelled "post reply" located at the top and bottom of the thread.
Experiment
That is really all you need to know to participate in the forum. Check back regularly to join in discussions and send greetings to new members.
Feel free to experiment with the different facilities and options and see what else you can do. If you make a mistake or need assistance, moderators are on hand to point you in the right direction. If you can't get an answer to your question, send an email to the administrator at david@paypershop.com .
If you want to use the forum to raise the profile of your business, keep reading to learn how to add banners and logos to your messages.
Avatars
When you post a message, your username is displayed on the left-hand side of the message. Below this you can place an avatar which is a pictoral representation of the author. This is an excellent way to ensure other members remember who you are as they will remember your unique picture far more readily than your name.
This can take form of a photograph helping users to identify you or, if you prefer, you can add you company logo.
Either way, this is done from the Profile page. The link to this is in the top right-hand corner of the forum index.
At the very bottom of the Profile page is the Avatar control panel. You can upload a picture from your hard drive but it must be smaller than 125x125 pixels and weigh less than 6kb. Just click on the "Browse…" button and select the image from your hard drive.
If you have an image on your own server, you can link to this instead by typing the complete URL in the "Link to off-site Avatar" field.
Click "Submit" and all your posts will now show your avatar. If you have any difficulties with this, try posting a request for help, or email the administrator - david@paypershop.com
Signatures
Posting messages for the sole purpose of advertising is not permitted, but you are permitted to make reference of your company's services and/or products in your
signature.
You can create a signature file on your profile page and it will automatically be added to the end of every message you post.
It might look something like this.
