The Inland Revenue has published a new 44-page booklet, IR10 Paying the right tax on your earnings or pension. It was piloted in the south west of England earlier in the year and has now been released nationally. It is designed to help employees and pensioners understand the PAYE process and it explains how they can take advantage of tax allowances and tax deductions and, where appropriate, claim tax refunds.

It would be a useful booklet to give out to employees querying the details on their payslips and raising other PAYE issues. However, as explained in the Leaflets Bulletin in May 2004, if public demand is low for this all-encompassing PAYE leaflet, it will be made an internet-only product for professional advisers and an alternative series of short guides will be considered instead.
