HMRC reports that almost 500 companies have signed up to Payroll Giving since new employer incentives were introduced early in 2005, as part of the Payroll Giving Grants programme. This programme gives employers with fewer than 500 employees an opportunity to introduce a Payroll Giving scheme and receive up to £;500 towards the set-up costs.

Payroll Giving enables employees to make charitable donations straight from their gross salary, giving them tax relief of up to 40% on their donations.
