The Ministry of Defence has announced a review of the financial assistance given to Reservists and their employers. The views of interested parties are sought and feedback to the consultation will help to identify how the current levels of financial assistance can be improved.

The MOD accepts that the existing scheme, introduced in 1997, needs to be reviewed. The MOD is consulting all interested parties and is particularly interested in gaining views on:

• the level of financial support given to Reservists, and
• financial assistance given to the employers of Reservists who incur additional costs as a result of staff being mobilised.

The intention is that the new scheme will be simple to understand and administer, and will not place any additional costs on Reservists or their employers.

Full details of the proposals are available on a dedicated MOD website. The consultation arrangements involve the completion of an on-line questionnaire. Comments are requested by 15 October 2004.
