Wages Board agrees to change its holiday pay calculation rules

The Agricultural Wages Board for England and Wales confirmed the details of the new Wages Order that came into effect on 1 October 2006. One of the changes involved the way holiday pay would be calculated. Instead of being based on each worker's basic pay plus guaranteed overtime, the new rules base the calculation on the pay in the previous twelve weeks, including both voluntary and guaranteed overtime.
The National Farmers' Union (NFU) reported on 13 October that, at a meeting of the Wages Board on that day, the NFU presented evidence that the change could cost farmers millions of pounds, would be a huge administrative burden for employers and would damage labour relations. The arguments were accepted and the Wages Board agreed to remove the change in the holiday pay calculation rules.
The NFU's press statement indicates that the Wages Board will meet again on 10 November to confirm the change to the Wages Order.
