National Payroll Week
The ninth annual National Payroll Week, promoted by the American Payroll Association (APA), runs September 6 to 10.

APA is sponsoring the second "Getting Paid In America" online survey asking America's workers to comment on payroll issues that affect them, such as the use of biometric technology for tracking time and attendance, payroll cards, automatic payroll deductions, and the security of personal financial information. The survey is live through the end of National Payroll Week.

Using a payroll processor
Not news exactly, but the website of the Maine Revenue Services provides an invaluable list of precautions to take when using the services of a payroll processor. The article points out that "employers face certain risks associated with the use of a processor, including possible lack of compliance and the risk of loss of funds that are under the control of the processor. Ultimately, it is the employer who bears the responsibility for meeting its payroll tax obligations."
