Workers may be eligible for unemployment tax refunds - Alaska
|
Some Alaska workers may be eligible for unemployment tax refunds if they worked for more than one employer during 2005. Workers who had more than $139.50 in unemployment taxes deducted for the year because they had more than one employer can apply for a refund of any deduction over that amount.
Alaska is one of just three states where both the employer and the worker contribute to the fund from which unemployment benefits are paid. State statutes provide for a refund to any worker who contributes in excess of the annual contribution maximum of $139.50 per employee.
Unemployment taxes are usually designated as ESC, ESD, UI or SUI on an individual's W-2 form. Requests for refunds must be made in writing with proof of earnings by Dec. 31, 2006.

Alaska - New online services for employers
|
The Department of Labor and Workforce Development has announced that Alaska employers have a new method for paying their unemployment insurance tax. By using the Department's new Online Employer Services (TaxWeb), employers receive ready access to their tax account information and may perform a variety of transactions, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
TaxWeb will help businesses compile, calculate, submit and pay through Electronic Funds Transfer, quarterly contribution reports over the internet. In addition, new employers can register with the Department. TaxWeb is secure; the use of access codes and passwords help ensure that only employers and those authorized by the employer can approve internet transactions.
