Michigan - Change in withholding tax due date
The due date for Michigan withholding tax will change to the 20th of the month following the tax period, with effect from the return for the month of September 2004. The September return will therefore be due on October 20. The change brings into line the due dates for sales tax, use tax and withholding tax.

Michigan's income tax rate drops to 3.9%, effective July 1, 2004. The reduction marks the final phase of the 0.5 percent reduction enacted in 1999. The withholding schedules for the period July 1 - December 31, 2004 are available to download from the Department of Treasury website.

The state Department of Treasury is also encouraging taxpayers to file their 2003 individual income tax returns electronically. From the beginning of 2004, all tax professionals who prepare and submit more than 200 Michigan income tax returns are required to file those returns electronically.
