US Payroll News: New Jersey - Over $250,000 collected in wages due to employees

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development has announced that it has collected over $250,000 in back wages and an additional $128,000 in fees and penalties in May 2005 in its ongoing efforts to enforce New Jersey's Wage and Hour & Prevailing Wage laws.

In a number of actions taken during May 2005, the Division of Wage and Hour Compliance assessed a number of employers in respect of back wages, administrative fees and penalties for numerous violations of the Wage and Hour and Wage Payment laws. In addition, three of the employers were contractors and were found to have paid rates of pay below the Prevailing Wage rates.
