The Pay-roll Tax Administration Amendment Act 2004, which received Royal Assent on 18 November 2004, makes changes to the pay-roll tax system. The two main changes involve:

• streamlining pay-roll tax returns, paving the way for online lodgement and payment services in the future; and
  
  
• applying the standard tax administration rules of the Taxation Administration Act 2001 to pay-roll tax. These standard rules will replace existing pay-roll tax specific rules.
