As explained in our news item of 14 October 2004, the Central Board of Direct Taxes announced that it is to authorise eligible categories of chartered accountants, advocates and employers who are responsible for deduction of tax from salaries and registered companies to function as e-Return Intermediaries. Under this 'Electronic Furnishing of Return of Income Scheme 2004', these e-intermediaries will digitise the data of returns and transmit under their 'digital signatures' to the e-filing Server of Income Tax Department.

Anyone wishing to become an 'e-Return Intermediary' under this Scheme can make an on-line application to the 'Registrar' of the Scheme, that is M/s NSDL, at www.tin-nsdl.com.
