Jamaica Payroll News - National consultation on minimum wage

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has begun a public consultation to arrive at a consensus on adjustments to the country's minimum wage next year. The series of public meetings will enable the tri-partite Minimum Wage Advisory Commission to obtain suggestions and opinions from a wide cross section of Jamaicans in advance of the first working week of January 2006, the next implementation date.

The minimum wage was last adjusted in January 2005 to $2,400 for a 40-hour workweek. This adjustment was a 20 per cent increase over the previous figure to $2,000 per week.
