Employers urged to grant 13th month pay before December 24 - Philippines Payroll News
|
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has urged employers to grant the 13th month pay to their workers earlier than December 24 in order to help them cope with the pressures of the Christmas season and give them time to prepare for Christmas Day.
All employers are required to pay their employees the 13th month pay regardless of the nature of their employment and irrespective of the method by which their wages are paid provided they worked for at least one month during the calendar year. The payment may not be less than 1/12th of the total basic salary earned by an employee within a calendar year and must be given to workers not later than December 24 of every year.

Informal sector workers urged to enroll with the Social Security System
Philippines Payroll News
|
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has urged barbers, beauticians, manicurists, massage therapists, and other informal sector (IS) workers in the health and beauty sector to obtain social security membership to avail themselves of housing and salary loans for use in setting up their own business enterprise.
The IS contributes about one third of the country's Gross Domestic Product. Workers in this sector were estimated to total some 43.5 percent or about 15.520 million of the 35.66 million total labor force in January 2005.
Health and beauty and other IS workers are only entitled to apply for housing and salary loans from the Social Security System (SSS) if they are enrolled with the system and have remitted their SSS contributions on a regular basis.
