Subject: Living Accomodation provided by Employer

I have a situation whereby a Nursery Manager lives above the nursery she is charged with running. The whole property is owned by the employing company. The Manager currently pays rent/share of bills from her net salary. I have been looking at ways where they could provide accomodation as a tax free benefit. There are exemptions out there, but the guidance is abit vague and not very objective. We are putting together a list of arguments as why there is a need for the manager to live in close proximity. But has anyone got any clear guidance on this?

At the present time the mechnical company I work for are employing a lot more people. For some reason a lot of these new workers don't have P45's as they say they were self employed before.
How do I inform my tax office these people are now working at my company?
How do I determine their tax code?

Subject: how to calculate correct salary?

My partner started a new job at the beginning of September, the 1st working day being Monday the 3rd. She had 2 days deducted from what would have been her normal monthly salary (annual /12) because she did not start on 1st of month (Saturday is not a working day in her contract).
I am amazed and surprised that her employer can use this argument, but have not been able to find anything to justify that she should receive her full monthly salary. I suspect this may also mean that she will not receive any holiday entitlement either (as the argument is she didn't work a full month!)
September 2007 is a funny month as there were only 20 working days in it, with weekends at each end.
Can anyone confirm how this should be calculated please?
