CIPD takes employment law on Autumn tour

The imminent repeal of the Statutory Dispute Resolution regulations will take centre stage at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development’s (CIPD) Autumn Law on Tour workshops. The repeal, which will come into effect from April next year, means that employers are required to take a different approach to dispute resolution which focuses primarily on mediation.

Mike Emmott, Employee Relations Adviser, CIPD says:
“The forthcoming repeal of the regulations means that employers will have greater flexibility to deal with discipline and grievance issues in a way which suits them best.
As far as possible, problems between employees and employers should be resolved early, without recourse to formal procedures.

“However, if a case does end up in the employment tribunal, employers will have to be able to demonstrate that every effort has been made to resolve the dispute in house. Failure to do so could have dire consequences.

“The Law on Tour workshop will help employers clearly understand what the shift in legislation requires of them in order to develop a sound procedures framework within their organisation. They will also need to invest in training line managers with the skills to enable them to resolve issues before they get out of hand.”

The workshops, designed to help organisations keep up to date with employment law changes, will also cover key legislative changes in the following area including:

  • Race Relations Act Amendments
  • Maternity rights amendments
  • National Minimum Wage changes
  • Working Time and opt-outs
  • Agency Workers reform
  • case law round up.
