New approach to payroll can boost green credentials and save money

Midlands based payroll provider, ESOS, is urging businesses to reduce their carbon footprint simply by switching from paper payslips to electronic payslips.

Over the past twelve months, ESOS has been actively making its payroll processes more environmentally friendly, and is now urging businesses to do the same – by making a simple switch.

Changing to e-payslips is a commercially attractive measure for employers, not only to help their business and employees become greener, but to help build and maintain a positive company image and reputation.

By switching to e-payslips, employers can schedule the automatic upload of payslips to a secure website and once there, employees are able to access their own payslips (both current and historic) without the need to revert to the payroll department.

This eliminates the costs and time involved in producing and sending costly and environmentally wasteful paper payslips.

Dave Cooper, Managing Director at ESOS, says: “Generating and distributing a paper payslip every time an employee is paid, is not only costly in finanical terms but also detrimental to the environment.

“Switching to electronic payslips is one of the simplest ways for businesses to improve their green credentials and to save money in the process. Changing to an online format gets rid of the costs associated with printing to paper and the need to store copies. It is also easier for employees as they are securely stored online.”

Since launching its e-payslip service, ESOS has reduced its paper consumption by approximately 650,000 payslips per annum – aside from the environmental benefits this has also saved the company over £200k in postage each year.
