On 20 January, Guernsey and the United Kingdom entered into a tax information exchange agreement (TIEA). There was also an agreement reached to revise the long-standing Double Taxation Agreement between the countries so that Guernsey residents will not have to pay UK tax on UK pensions that do not relate to government service Such pensions will only be taxed in Guernsey and will, as a result, pay tax at a lower rate.
The date when these new provisions on the taxation of pensions take effect will depend on when the UK and Guernsey are able to complete the necessary legal requirements, to bring the amendments to the DTA into effect.
