Payments, Repayments and Debt - Business Payment Support Service
Written by Ian Congreave - Filed under: Compliance on December 8th, 2008
Among the measures announced by the Chancellor in the Pre-Budget Report 2008 was the introduction, from 24 November 2008, of a new, dedicated Business Support Service designed to meet the needs of businesses affected by the current economic conditions.
The service allows businesses to discuss their circumstances and reach agreement on temporary options that are tailored to the employer’s business needs, for example, arranging to make payments over a longer period. No additional late payment surcharges will be imposed on payments included in the arrangement although interest will continue to be payable on those taxes where it applies.
The Support Line is for new enquiries only. Businesses that have already have a payment arrangement in place or have been contacted by HMRC about an overdue payment should initially contact the office that originally contacted them in order to discuss their options.
If we’ve already contacted you about an overdue payment it’s important that you call the original office that contacted you. They will be ready to discuss payment arrangement options with you and explain how to avoid legal action being taken.
The service is available on 08543 021435, Monday - Friday 8.00am to 8.00 pm, Saturday and Sunday 8.00 am – 4.00 pm.
