The UK Border Agency has published a consultation document, in which views are sought on changes to the charging structures for the applications and services provided by the Agency. Around 30% of the £2 billion spent on border security and immigration controls comes from the current fee structure.
Among the proposals are some that would affect employers, namely
- Sponsorship under the points-based system – should ‘B’ rated sponsors pay higher charges than ‘A’ rated sponsors? Additional costs are incurred in assisting ‘B’ rated sponsors comply with their responsibilities in order to obtain ‘A’ rating.
- Certificate of sponsorship – the charge for certificates issued in Tier 2 is different to that charged in Tiers 4 and 5 but, within each Tier, the charge is the same. Should there be more flexibility in the prices charged within each Tier?
