Introduction to Newsletter 04.11.09

Hi! If you're new here, you might want to register for free email updates. Just use the form at the top of the sidebar. Thanks for visiting The Payroll Blog!

We have a little less reading this week, covering a variety of subjects. If you have strong views about retiring at age 65 and would like to see the default age scrapped, you have an invitation from the Government to make your views known. The recent High Court decision gives reason to think that change is necessary in order to comply with European legislation.

Other news items consider the time off rules for public duties, the extent to which Deduction from Earnings Orders are being used, a further tax-exempt benefit added to the list of EFRBS benefits, and another change in the definition of “qualifying childcare”.

We also have two items for readers who handle payroll for Guernsey. Guernsey has a very different approach to salary sacrifice than the UK.
