The Institute of Payroll Professionals (IPP) has awarded its prestigious Payroll Quality Partnership (PQP) accreditation to two public sector organisations, Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

The award recognises that each organisation applies best practice in payroll professional development and demonstrates that they have met stringent criteria set out by the IPP in order to provide a compliant and efficient payroll service.

The accreditation is part of the IPP’s ongoing goal to uphold the highest standards in the payroll industry, with 12 accredited organisations so far and 65 companies engaged to the scheme.

The PQP accreditation scheme was launched in July 2007 to provide a standard for performance management in payroll, encouraging organisations to maintain professional competence while enhancing and developing payroll skills and knowledge.

Liz Lay, Associate Director of Learning & Development at the IPP, said: “With so many employers cutting their training budgets, it is vital to encourage professional development in the workplace for the successful delivery of services.

“My congratulations go to the CCC and the CPS for their notable achievements. Both organisations have demonstrated their commitment to best practice in payroll and professional development within the public sector.”

Colin Short, Head of Pay and Benefits at the CPS, said: “We are very proud to be one of the first central government organisations to be awarded PQP status. It shows that our department is committed to achieving the highest payroll standards and is successfully meeting the demands of the CPS.

“As a result of the PQP accreditation process, our employees benefit from a training plan that not only sets out their current and future goals for professional development but also enhances the knowledge they currently hold and builds their confidence to teach and learn different skills.”

Cheryll Newton, Payroll Services Development Manager at CCC, said: “We are very proud to have been given the PQP accreditation as it
recognises CCC as a centre of excellence for
payroll and acknowledges the Council’s ongoing commitment to its
employees’ personal training and development.”

If you would like to find out more about the PQP scheme for partnership organisations and hear from organisations that have attained the accreditation, a workshop is taking place on Tuesday, 2 March 2010 in BA Heathrow. The workshop is free to attend and you can register by emailing pqp@payrollprofession.org.
