Payroll body outlines its recommendations for expenses reform

The Institute of Payroll Professionals (IPP) has announced that it is willing to act for the Committee of Standards in Public Life in an attempt to tackle the crisis over MPs’ expenses.

The IPP has called on the Committee to seek their advice following the announcement that a new independent body is to be created to audit and verify MPs’ future expense claims.

As the UK’s largest provider of payroll training and qualifications, and with over 5000 members, the IPP is well positioned to carry out a full independent review of MPs’ expenses.

They offer a full range of learning programmes covering expense management to help professional development and to enable all Payroll and Pensions staff to learn current good practices.

Lindsay Melvin, CEO of the IPP, says: “We consider that we are ideally placed to carry out the review of MPs expenses. Our involvement in this case would be seen by the public as an independent body with the correct experience and authority to deliver the review which is required.”

The IPP has already outlined its recommendations on how a review of MPs’ expenses should be carried out, and has offered this advice in a letter written to the Committee.
