HMRC issued the following announcement on 20 March:

“The bulk issue of 2009-10 PAYE Payslip Booklets (P30BC) has started. We have identified that the first batch printed contained two print errors. These errors have now been fixed and booklets are being issued correctly.

The two errors were:

  1. Payslip Booklet issued to an agent did not show the client’s name on the booklet cover; the client’s name is printed on the payslips inside the booklet.
  2. The reference printed within the payslip reference box did not show the year ending and month number. For example a reference number for 2009-10 month 01 was shown as: ‘123 PA 00456789’ when ‘123 PA 00456789 1001’ should have been printed. The period ending is printed in the top right corner on the payslip helping you to identify which payslip to use.

The Codeline at the bottom of the payslips is correct, so banks and Post Offices will still be able to process your payments and we will be able to allocate them to the correct year and month.

As neither of these errors affects the way your payment will be processed, you can use these booklet payslips if you pay over the bank or Post Office counter or by post.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused.”
