Our company hasn't made payroll this week and were not sure if they will ever pay it. What are the consequences for the company and what can we as employees do?

I am not an expert on US labor laws, but you will find California's provisions on handling non-payment of wages at http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/dlseWagesAndHours.html
There is a link on that page to help you to make a wages claim. I do not know, however, how wages claims are affected if the reason for non-payment is insolvency of the employer.
If the outcome of the situation is unemployment, your should be able to make an unemployment insurance claim - information at http://www.edd.ca.gov/fleclaim.htm
