Hi Everyone,
I am new in payroll.dont know much about it but trying to know through websites and be a member of site like this which help those people whose having a trouble in processing payroll
I do have some question in my mind. which suppose to be silly for you but I am bit confused about it
I finished my payroll training about couple of months ago and looking for a job but as it is everyone need experience.even i am willing to relocate and ready to be volunteer.
So I am trying to learn my self i download payroll software which is available on internet like free trial
I am using moneysoft at the moment and just wondering about SMP
I put a data of collegue and then after 26 weeks I put her on SMP. so all i want to know is that, that is software going to count her SMP by it self or I have to count it and put payment ?
If I have to put payment then where should I put that? she is working on hourly basis so SMP going to be paid 90% of her contracted hours? I think 90% would be piad for first six weeks and then 117 pounds for rest of the weeks.
Sorry but I am not to good in english so if there any mistake ,please consider my appologies

Harin, welcome to the PayPerShop forum and thank you for posting your question. I'm sure that, if you have learned the theory of UK payroll, you will find it a challenge to work out just how a software package makes it all happen. You might be surprised to know that there are many people working in payroll departments whose complete experience of payroll is operating a payroll system and they have very little idea of what it is actually doing!
I have never used Moneysoft but I do know, from the listings on HMRC's website (at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ebu/payroll-acclist.pdf) that their payroll software is "accredited" by HMRC - in other words, it meets all of the requirements of HMRC's "payroll standard" (details at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ebu/payroll.htm). That means that, among other facilities, the payroll system must be able to calculate SMP (and SSP, SAP and SPP) by itself from the information held in an employee's record and then pay it at the right time. If your employee is weekly-paid, the system will likely pay the SMP weekly. If your employee is paid monthly, the system may ask you if you want it to pay four weeks SMP some months and five weeks in others, or if you want the SMP calculating according to the number of days in the month.
So you should find that, for the person you have been paying through your payroll, that, if you provide the necessary information - basically just the date on which the baby is due - that the system will handle everything for you. It will, however, check when the employee started and whether the employee has sufficient average earnings, so, if all of the qualifying conditions are met, it will pay 90% of the average earnings for the first six weeks, then £117.18 for the remaining 33 weeks.
Perhaps another visitor to the Forum has had some direct experience with Moneysoft and will be able to give you some hints. _________________ Ian Congreave, PayPerShop owner
