Hello, I hope you can help answer my question.
While off work related to an injury on the job I was paid for accrued vacation time. After receiving the payment I called the office to see what the money was for and make sure that it was ok and I really deserved it. I was told that it was vacation pay I had accrued. The date of the check in question was 6/26/02 .
I received a letter dated May/04 stating that they had overpaid me and I owed the company $700. I have not been able to get a straight answer out of anybody and it has gone to collection and is now on my credit report.
I heard nothing of this for almost 2 years and now they have sent me a bill and reported me to the credit bureau for not paying. Do I have any recourse here at all? Can a company really wait 2 years and then send me a bill? I really don't know where to go for the answer to this.
