Hi Stewart,

I dont run a payroll "system" now, there is only two of us so I do it on a Spreadsheet. From my ** years in payroll though i would say that the systems i have enjoyed the most have been the simple and straightforward ones.

My first use of systems was an old ICL one, then it was an in house system written in BASIC (would you believe). Neither of them worked well. After that I went through QPAC, Unipay, Frontier, Oracle HRMS, ResourceLink, Cyborg and UNI2000. In addition i have installed and used a variety of financial systems for accounts, income, payments etc.

I would have to say that my favourite payroll system was Unipay because of its simplicity, its straightforward approach and its responsiveness to change. It was strong, always the first system back up and running after a power cut, it was fast and accurate and as a manager you were in control of it at all times. You could learn to understand it so when it went wrong it was easy to know whereabouts the problem was.

Of the financial systems i preferred LG Software's payment and income systems mainly for the same reasons.

Since installing and using these i would have to say that i never found other systems could provide me with the same feelings nor the same job satisfaction.

That's my contribution to the debate, it will be interesting to see what others say about the state of the software market.
