The 2008 HRD conference and exhibition to take place between 15-17 April , at ExCeL, London, alongside the 12th World HR Congress on 14 April

The CIPD's annual HRD Learning and Development Conference and Exhibition this year will combine a thorough look at some of the key issues in learning and development, leadership, organisational development and talent management with a focus on the international challenges facing learning and development professionals. Thousands of people management and development professionals will gather to hear from leading practitioners and though leaders between 15-17 April at ExCeL London.

This year the CIPD will also host the biennial World HR Congress on behalf of the World Federation of Personnel Management Associations on 14 April, which will tackle the key global people management and development challenges that will shape the 21st century.

The combined programme will reflect the day to day and strategic challenges facing learning and development professionals, alongside a focus on the specific issues for learning and development professionals associated with the increasingly globalised economy. The conference includes UK and international case studies, interactive workshops and debates. It has an impressive line up of over 100 speakers including:

• Charles Handy, world renowned management thinker, speaking on transformational leadership
  
  
• Alastair Campbell, public relations guru and former Director of Communications and Strategy for Tony Blair, speaking on how businesses can do a better job of challenging the media
  
  
• Rob Goffee and Gareth Jones, organisational behaviour and management experts, speaking on igniting an appreciation for learning
  
  
• Daniel Pink, columnist and author of A Whole New Mind, speaking on how to give organisations a new brain
  
  
• Debashis Chatterjee, professor of organisation behaviour at the Indian Institute of management and dean of the leadership centre at the SP Jain Centre of Management, Singapore, on transformational leadership

Victoria Winkler, CIPD Learning, Training and Development Adviser, says: "With the onset of the credit crunch and concerns about the global economy, 2008 will be a challenging time for learning and development professionals facing the prospect of budgetary squeezes.
