Boston Engineering Sees Reduction in Costs Since Using Journyx Timesheet for Time Tracking and Project Management
April 2007
AUSTIN, TEXAS (April 10, 2007) - Boston Engineering Corporation - an engineering services outsourcing firm - is using Journyx Timesheet software for 100 percent of employee time tracking, and using the resulting data for billing, invoicing and project management. Additionally, Boston Engineering uses Timesheet data to calculate payroll for hourly employees. Since implementing Timesheet, overhead costs are significantly lower, allowing the IT department to focus both time and budget on other important business needs.
"Our costs associated with maintenance of our time and accounting systems are down," said Shawn Lothrop, IT Director, Boston Engineering. "The average length of time required to approve a timecard is lower by 25 percent due to Timesheet's robust approval process and web-based access. In addition, Timesheet's 'rates' and 'rules' modules allow us to accurately track project costs by tailoring the rate structure on a per-project basis, resulting in a 5 percent decrease in non-billable hours. The key parts of the business are now automated due to leveraging the Journyx application programming interface (API). By integrating the API with other business systems, we give our end users access to select features, allowing them to administer their own projects. This eliminates up to 75 percent of the day-to-day system administration of our time and billing system."
Boston Engineering formerly used a desktop application for tracking time that had a project accounting module, but being a project-based company, they needed a system that was built around project accounting. They found themselves only using a small number of the application's features which did not always meet all of their needs. When the provider forced a system change that required a costly upgrade - even more costly than the price that Boston Engineering had originally paid for the software itself - they conducted a lengthy evaluation process for other solutions. Boston Engineering found that only Journyx Timesheet has all the necessary key features, including an external API, rate customization, a 100 percent web user interface and an open source foundation.
"Boston Engineering is a perfect example of how something as unassuming as time-tracking data can be absolutely critical to corporate costs and profitability," said Curt Finch, CEO of Journyx. "By using the information generated by employee time data, they're able to better manage projects, reduce maintenance costs and reduce their own day-to-day administration of the system by 75 percent. Their continued growth and success is proof positive of how critical it is for companies to understand their project costs."
