MidlandHR's Trent at centre of £60 million Gateshead College refurbishment

October 2007

Nottingham, 24 October 2007: MidlandHR will implement its integrated Trent HR and payroll system at Gateshead College as part of the college's £60 million investment in building a world class campus, with a streamlined and innovative IT infrastructure at its core.

Running through the college's new financial year and its busiest recruitment period, MidlandHR will manage a two-phased implementation to replace disparate legacy and outsourced systems, with Trent's payroll, core HR and recruitment modules scheduled to go-live in April 2008 and employee self-service in September 2008.

To make sure that all goes smoothly, the year-end procedures will be supported by MidlandHR's payroll consultants who will be onsite to guide the college through a step-by-step implementation on the college's own system at its new £39 million Baltic Campus. To further support the in-house payroll and finance departments, MidlandHR will provide a bureau service to print and distribute all employee payslips.

The burden of completing and submitting the annual Staff Individualised Records (SIRs) for the Learning and Skills Council will be eased through Trent's automated SIR functionality. Additionally, Trent's intelligent reporting functions will allow the HR and payroll departments to produce quick, detailed and accurate management reports in minutes rather than the days currently taken.

As the college doors re-open at the start of the 2008 academic year in September, employees will have secure, instant electronic access to their HR records and online payslips. Trent's self-service module will allow them to update details including training requests and records, expenses claims and holidays for authorisation by line mangers using Trent's Workflow system.

Su Breadner, Assistant Principal for HR at Gateshead College comments, "Our priority was to reduce risk and administration in order to increase efficiencies and productivity of the HR and payroll departments. For example, our existing systems aren't integrated, so a vast amount of time is wasted re-keying information from printouts between departments. Trent will streamline the HR and payroll functions, reflecting the college's forward-thinking approach to the support and service levels expected of a world-class college."
