Games Workshop arms 1,300 employees with MidlandHR's model HR and payroll system
November 2007
Nottingham 15th November 2007: Games Workshop is realigning its personnel line of attack through the implementation of MidlandHR's web-based Trent - integrated HR and payroll solution - to streamline recruitment and retention, administrative processes, end of year returns and line manager authorisations.
In an unusual but strategic move, the Trent payroll and core HR modules will be the first to go live in February 2008, fractionally ahead of the end of year returns deadline. Rob Griffiths, project manager at Games Workshop explains: "Last year's end of year returns took two weeks to complete on our existing system. When compared to the matter of hours Trent will take to complete the task, the inefficiencies, and therefore benefits to be reaped via Trent, are apparent. March's payroll will run through Trent to afford us accurate and speedy results in time for the April deadlines.
"Additionally, we needed Trent's payroll to support differing tax and SSP requirements. Although the majority of employees are either based at our Nottingham headquarters or retail stores across the UK, some are in Ireland, so our payroll system has to seamlessly manage the legislative differences between the two countries."
The implementation of the recruitment module, also to go live in February 2008, will take advantage of Games Workshop's traditionally quieter post-Christmas period to transfer and update records.
The spirit of the web recruitment and training and development modules is central to Games Workshop's culture, where career progression and training are the key to its recruitment and retention programme, the success of which is demonstrated by 310 people in its employee longevity group - '10 Year Veterans '. This second phase will complete in April. It will also lay the foundations for the implementation of manager and employee self-service for access to individual personnel records - from online payslips to training requests - expected to be introduced at the start of 2009.
