Diversity and disability in the workplace addressed at Softworld

by the 'world's most inspirational man'

October 2005

Steve Cunningham has been described as 'the most inspirational man alive' by Sir Geoff Hurst. He is totally blind and yet has achieved truly remarkable feats of mental and physical strength and determination.

Steve will host a master class session at the forthcoming Softworld HR & Payroll event (12 - 13 October 2005, NEC, Birmingham) during which he will pass on his knowledge of the qualities he has developed. So often people do not realise what their capabilities really are, or how far they can stretch themselves. They actually fear going past the comfort zone, and finding out the limit of their own inner strength. Steve will change that defensive mind set into positive action, evoking both tears and laughter as he recounts his experiences.

Steve is officially the fastest blind man on land, sea and in the air, holding the World Blind Land Speed Record and becoming the fastest blind person on water in the World Offshore Powerboat Challenge. He is also the only blind person to pilot a plane around the coast of the UK. If that is not enough, he is a golfer with a handicap of 14, he has captained England in the football world cup and has held records in athletics, not to mention his many successes in business.

A frequent motivational speaker, Steve will address visitors at Softworld looking at overcoming challenges, and developing partnerships. His experience in consulting and training on diversity and disability issues and the way in which they need to be embraced in the modern workplace will all be addressed, offering a unique and invaluable insight.

Steve will be participating at Softworld in association with Topaz (www.topaz.co.uk), the leading provider of Financial, Payroll and HR solutions. Topaz are working closely with Steve to ensure Topaz HR solutions manage the areas of disability and diversity effectively, providing tools for employers to monitor, analyse and plan in these potentially highly sensitive areas. Steve will be present on the Topaz stand 510 during the event.

"We are delighted to have Steve speaking at this year's event," comments Liz Wood, Portfolio Director for Softworld HR & Payroll. "Steve is a new speaker for the programme and it is the first time that we have addressed disability on the master class programme."
