WESTON, Fla., Sept. 12 - Ultimate Software, a leading provider of human resources, payroll, and workforce management solutions, announced today that Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI), a teaching hospital with 1,400 employees, is live on Ultimate Software's UltiPro Workforce Management through the Intersourcing service model after an on-time, on-budget implementation.
Located in Boston, Massachusetts, the infirmary is a 42-bed independent specialty hospital and the primary teaching hospital for Harvard Medical School in the departments of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. Each year since 1990, U.S. News & World Report magazine has ranked the healthcare provider in the top 5 in one or both of its specialties. Prior to UltiPro, MEEI had been using a mainframe solution for its human resources and payroll management that was going to require a costly upgrade in order to increase efficiencies. MEEI compared the projected expenses and functionality associated with an upgrade of their existing solution to the costs and functionality that the hospital would incur by switching to Ultimate Software's Intersourcing or to a leading payroll service bureau. The organization found Intersourcing to be the winner in both categories and ran its first payroll with UltiPro in April 2006.
"Compared with the other vendors we reviewed, Ultimate Software offered us the widest range of functionality through its Intersourcing on-demand model, ranging from comprehensive workforce analytics, to Web self-service, to eRecruitment, to Time and Attendance. Additionally, it was the most cost- effective and easy to use," said Chris Regan, vice president of human resources for MEEI.
Ease of use was an important factor for Regan in the search for a new vendor so that she and other executives at MEEI could gather workforce information without extensive training or experience on the product. With their previous solution, the HR team had to have at least a basic understanding of computer code and the application's complex navigation methods.
"Now that we've left the AS/400 environment, I'm glad to be using a solution that has an interface that is so straightforward and logical," said Regan. "I can find details on our workforce much more quickly than before."
By using Ultimate Software's Intersourcing service model, MEEI also has simplified HR/payroll support processes by outsourcing the IT responsibilities associated with UltiPro. Ultimate Software manages the upgrades, backups, and other maintenance for its Intersourcing customers.
"Our internal IT staff can focus on responsibilities beyond report writing and HR/payroll system management," said Regan. "We recently needed a companywide report that may have taken days before UltiPro because we would have had to rely on our very busy IT staff to write and run it. With UltiPro, we got it ourselves in minutes."
"It often doesn't pay to stick with an older, out-of-date HR/payroll system, as MEEI discovered. With Intersourcing, the facility is now on track to achieve a level of value that would not have been possible with its previous solution," said Greg Swick, senior vice president of sales for Ultimate Software. "We are very happy that MEEI decided to switch to Intersourcing to increase the strategic contributions that its human resources department can offer, and we look forward to continuing our work with them as they increasingly enhance the value they can provide MEEI."
