Taking the Hassle Out of Health and Safety Training

December 2007

Croner health & safety product could save employers billions of pounds

London, December 5, 2007 - With an estimated 36 million working days lost each year due to workplace injury or ill health, costing UK businesses of £4.8 billion, HR experts Croner, part of Wolters Kluwer UK, has launched an online training product, to help employers cut costs and reduce the number of accidents in the workplace.

Predominantly made up of work-related stress and depression, or otherwise, slips, trips and falls, this staggering amount of money could be significantly reduced by implementing sound training programmes.

All businesses employing five or more people have a legal obligation to provide health and safety training to their employees. However, with the increasing demands on their time and resources, business owners and managers, are seeking suitable tools to help them meet this legal requirement.

Croner's 'Health and Safety Trainer', available as two different versions depending on the place of work - there are office and industrial versions - is a new online package designed to educate and inform employees about key health and safety issues in the workplace.

As it is online, employees can use the facility in their own time and at their own pace, thereby eliminating the hassle and high costs involved in arranging training courses.

Claire Beresford, Commercial Manager at Croner, says: "With an average of 1.3 working days lost per employee each year due to workplace injury or ill health, it would seem that the sensible option for employers would be to get on board with a product like this to help re-enforce health and safety messages in the workplace.

"This in turn will reduce the number of days lost and more importantly will see a drop in the amount of money being lost over the course of each year. Employees need to be fully informed of such health and safety regulations to ensure that they are safe at work and have an improved working environment.

"For employers, it is essential that such precautions are taken to avoid the potentially heavy financial impact that accidents can cause."

Claire continues: "The product will help employees gain a deeper understanding of health and safety in their workplace, but in a more relaxed approach which is interesting and informative. And, for employers this software provides a substantial training tool which tracks their employees' training and assesses their level of understanding to help create a more health and safety conscious workforce."

Croner Health and Safety Trainer is a must for all health and safety, human resources and training managers who have responsibility for staff training and well being. While for employers, it is essential for staff development and is a very cost effective training resource to implement in the workplace.
